** Sorry friends and family!! I’m a bit behind in my postings. This was written a couple of days ago. Believe it or not, cell phone service and wifi have been quite the challenge. And life on the road has been more hectic than I expected. I’ll try to be better!
The Olympic Trials Adventure is underway! Four days on the road and so far so good! So just a quick catch up for those of you who are following the journey and not just the sports.
We left Conifer on Wed., June 13th at 5:00 a.m. Destination, South Entrance to Yellowstone. All in all it was a pretty painless 550 miles. We drove through Wyoming, a combination of flat, desolate country and spectacular scenery. Coming off of Togwotee Pass was a most breathtaking view of the Tetons. But we got no photos as they were doing major roadwork and we weren’t allowed to stop. And yes, Jim tried anyway and got reprimanded by the road crew!
We arrived at our “boondock” camping spot (RV speak for “free with no amenities). It was right on the river with a beautiful view. We had two neighbors who couldn’t have been more different. The first was an older couple from “Loooozeanna.“ They were camping in an old makeshift utility trailer and made sure we knew about their 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The second was a younger couple from California in a super decked out Dodge van. The guy was wearing a “Hike Naked” cap and everything was bitchin’. I mean really, does anybody even use that word anymore!
Best part? Sitting by the river and watching a majestic eagle soar right over our heads!
Off the next day to Couer d’Alene Idaho, another 500 plus miles. We drove through Yellowstone, halted for a while by a large herd of bison and several frisky babies! The throngs of people were already invading the park and the roads were busy. The drive through Montana and Idaho was very pretty. Our first official RV Park experience, Couer d’Alene RV Camp and Resort was mostly pleasant and uneventful. What a gorgeous place CDA is. Lush green forests and a giant lake with houses built right into the water! But it was a quick overnight stop, not much time to explore.
Day three was a short 200 miles to Wenatchee, Washington. We stayed with one of Jim’s first gymnasts, Dave Hyde and his family, wife Mary and kids Evie, Belle and Nora. Jim was a groomsman in their wedding in Wenatchee some years ago. When we arrived they informed us it was their 21st anniversary that day! What a fun coincidence! Had a wonderful visit. Thanks guys!!
Day four, on to Seattle. Did the touristy thing and hung out at the Pike Place Market. Crowded, crazy and fun. We watched a guy play the guitar while hula hooping and playing the harmonica! Hmmm….the next Olympic sport? Great place to people watch. Kept our eyes open for kids who looked like divers, but no luck.
We settled into our camp spot, Dash Point State Park, where we’ll actually be for four whole days! Less an RV park and more a campground, it’s very lush and green with lots of huge trees and ferns. Not too far from the ocean. Should be a good home base for the week.
BUT FINALLY, IT’S DIVING TIME!!! All I can say is, let the games begin! The scenery has been cool, but we came to experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. It’s time to watch some big time flippin’ and twistin’.

Yes, we’ve got some serious Olympic fever going here. In fact, check out my breakfast from this morning. Couldn’t believe what I saw 😉
In Celebration of Sport!
